The election season is on. The Indian General Elections are conducting in nine phase. The opportunity is for the people to show their anger and choosing the best by going beyond the caste, creed and religion. The time to give a lesson to the thick skin politician that we are changing and you should too. But is this happening or we are behaving like we behaved in past?

One of my friends was aggressively opposing the policies and working way of the government. He was angry on the wrongdoings in the country whether it was the rape case or scam. Many times he mentioned that put all the politicians in jail for life time. But this was before election dates declaration.

I returned from my native place after casting my vote and I asked him how the experience of voting was. He said it was good, he voted for a particular party who already declared its PM candidate. Something struck in my mind and I didn’t believe his words but I didn’t show that on his face. I further asked about the position of the button in EVM machine of the candidate he voted for. And when he replied I was sure that he didn’t vote. On further inquiring he accepted about not voting and the excuse was he did not have the voter card. Let me make this clear that his name is in the voter list.

Another instance was related to one of my colleague. He too was angry with the system. He was giving the various ideas how we improve the system. One of the suggestions was regarding making the voting online. So I queried did he vote. He said that his voting was due as he belong to West Bengal and the voting date is not arrived yet.

I further queried when he is traveling to his place for exercising his right. On his answer I was not much surprised. He said he is not going because it is not possible for him to go and return in one day and flight tickets are too costly.

I suggested him that he can take some leave and club it with weekend and go to exercise your right. His answer was usual that the leave did not grant to him for this. When I asked him that few days back he took five days leave twice for traveling to Jaisalmer and Nainital. He was unanswered.

The question is simple are people in both these case have any right to question the government wrongdoings or get benefits of any of the government facility. In my opinion, the answer is “A BIG NO”.

I agree that government should implement new ways of voting to increase the percentage but before that we people should send those people who will give attention to our suggestion.

There is good news that the voting percentage are increasing in compare to last General Election in most of the states. But this increasing percentage in voting is for changing the system or changing the government, we will see in coming years.
